Meta Platforms is preparing to launch a range of AI-powered chat bots showing different characters as early as September, the Financial Times reported today.
Meta designs prototypes of chatbots that can have human-like discussions with their users, as the company tries to enhance its interaction with its social media platforms, according to the report, citing people familiar with the plans.
The report added that social media giants in Minlow Park, California, are exploring a chatbot talking like Abraham Lincoln and another one advising on surfer-style travel options, and the purpose of these chatbots is to provide a new search function as well as recommendations.
The report comes at a time when Meta’s executives focus on enhancing retention of the new text-based application, having lost more than half of its users in the weeks following its launch on July 5, according to gadgets360.
Meta did not promptly respond to Reuters request for comment.
Facebook’s parent company reported a strong rise in advertising revenue in its earnings last week, and third-quarter revenue forecasted above market expectations.
The company was recovering from bruises in 2022, supported by the noise around emerging AI technology and the austerity campaign that has used 21,000 employees since last fall.
